While it isn’t an actual in-game screenshot, the image revealed today by developer Overkill offers the first look at the style they are pushing for in their upcoming game based on The Walking Dead. The image is of a physical bust created for the production, which is used as a sort of model for how the designer will create the in-game enemies. The game, which is currently going by the title Overkill’s The Walking Dead, has no direct ties to the Telltale Games series, which is currently heading into season 3. This new game is based on the comics as well, but will tell a new story, with new characters, and in a new place.

Looking at the bust actually might be a bit revealing for the story. The walker is damaged, but not overly decayed as many appear later in the comics and TV show. This could indicate that the game takes place earlier in the timeline, happening near the beginning of the initial outbreak that destroyed society. This is definitely speculation and conjecture though, so we’ll have to wait for more info as the game gets closer to release.

The game is a co-op first-person shooter title, offering a very different gameplay experience from the Telltale series. While parallels could be drawn to the failed game based on the TV show, The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct, that was done by a different studio under totally different conditions. Overkill has a track record for fantastic co-op FPS experiences, such as their work on the Payday franchise.

Overkill’s The Walking Dead will be released in 2016. No definite platforms have been announced as of yet.
