Overwatch continues to be one of the dominant multiplayer games this year, and developer Blizzard has been doing their best to keep fans happy with plenty of gameplay tweaks to keep things balanced. However, they also have some big plans for new modes on the horizon, which they claim will be particularly crazy.
The game’s director, Jeff Kaplan, recently spoke to Kotaku about new modes and said that they “have a lot of ideas. I think we have some absolutely crazy stuff that’s going to blow people’s minds coming out sooner than people realize. That’s, I think, going to catch people totally out of left field like, ‘Wow, I wasn’t expecting that from Overwatch.’”
However, he also emphasized the importance of putting the focus on heroes first before modes, because they don’t want the balance of the heroes to suffer as the result of the altered rules of a new mode. He said the following:
“The tricky part for us is we’ve always talked about the ultimate priority in Overwatch is the heroes. The game is about the heroes, and we never want a game mode to overshadow the heroes. As soon as somebody starts pitching a game mode where Tracer can’t blink anymore or she’s not allowed to use her recall, that’s where we step away from it and we’re like, “You know, we need the game mode that makes Tracer want to blink and use recall and that everybody thinks that’s cool and not a balance problem and broken.”
Overwatch is currently available for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. The game most recently had its first new hero added to its roster, which was a healing sniper named Ana. She is the mother of Pharah and has a rivalry with Widowmaker, and you can learn more about her by clicking right here.
