The cat was let out of the bag early thanks to several leaks, but today Blizzard has officially announced Overwatch’s Uprising seasonal event. The event officially kicks off today and will run until May 1st across all supported platforms, which brings some interesting new content to the game.
This new update is sure to please fans of those who were interested in learning about what really caused the game’s central conflict, as it is set during the Omnic Uprising of King’s Row. “Experience a pivotal moment in history from before the fall of Overwatch,” reads the description. “Join a strike team of Overwatch agents—including the newest recruit, Tracer—as they undertake a vital mission to stop an omnic uprising in King’s Row. Drop into the action and play as one of the four charged with completing this critical objective.”
This content will also be notable seeing as the game’s iconic character Tracer is a newcomer at this point in the timeline, with this mission being her first. “Journey seven years into the past and join a group of Overwatch agents fighting through the streets of King’s Row to quell an uprising led by Null Sector, a rogue group of omnics. Team up with your friends and play as Tracer, Torbjörn, Reinhardt, or Mercy to defeat the robots and liberate the city. There are no reinforcements. Failure is not an option. The future depends on you.”
Along with the new four-player PvE mode is plenty of new unlockables for players to try and acquire, which includes the likes of Uprising Loot Boxes, cosmetic skins, highlights, emotes and sprays that are themed after key moments taken from throughout Overwatch’s history. A new trailer for this seasonal event was also released showing some of it off, which you can check out for yourself below.
