Atlus has announced today that the PlayStation exclusive Persona 5 has topped more than 2 million shipments worldwide. It is an impressive milestone for the game, that was already seen as the company’s best selling game in its history. Not only that, but the game has reached this unprecedented popularity supported by excellent reviews and numerous awards, naming the game on the the best RPGs of the current generation.

In fact, the game has been nominated in four categories of the upcoming Game Awards 2017, including Game of the Year, Best Art Direction, Best Score/Music, and Best Role-Playing Game. Previous awards claimed by the game include the Excellent Award at the Japan Game Awards 2016, Gold Prize and Users’ Choice Prize at the PlayStation Awards 2016 and 2017, or the Game Video Division Excellence Award at the VFX-Japan Awards 2017.

We certainly gave the game a great review, saying “Persona 5 expands upon many of the elements that the series has featured in the past, while also streamlining certain aspects to make it an even smoother ride. It’s a spectacular RPG experience that is truly in a league of its own, and fans of the series and the genre in general owe it to themselves to check it out.”

Naoto Hiraoka, President and CEO of Atlus USA, has said about this milestone: “We are in the middle of experiencing tremendous growth, both in the west and abroad, and the sales of Persona 5 represent a new level of expectation for fans of the genre. Once seen as niche, Persona 5 is one of the most important titles this year, proving interest in this category is expanding. We look forward to delivering more incredible games to our fans next year.” Atlus recently announced a dancing game spin-off for PS4 and PSVita called Persona 5: Dancing Star Night.

Persona 5 is available now for PS4 and PS3. You can also get the Ultimate Edition, including the game and all the DLC released.
