Player Beats DOOM’s Hardest Difficulty Without Dying

by Mike Guarino

Leading up to the launch of ID Software’s new DOOM game it was revealed that the game had some pretty demanding difficulty settings. However, one of them stood out in particular, because it tasks you with beating the game at its hardest difficulty setting without dying.

The mode in question is called Ultra Nightmare, and ID Software had been saying just prior to launch that not even anyone on their staff had managed to beat it yet. Well, it didn’t take long for one dedicated gamer to pull off this impressive feat, as YouTuber Zero Master did it in just under 5 hours.

You can check out the entire playthrough via the video at the bottom of this post, which is some seriously impressive stuff. I can only imagine the rage that some have undoubtedly felt by getting close to the end and then dying, which then forces you to go all the way back to the beginning.

One cool thing about this challenging mode is that it leaves a marker for where you died for everyone else to see, which adds a pretty cool social element to it. You can laugh in embarrassment at markers found right at the beginning of the game and laugh in pity at markers found at the end of the game.

DOOM is available now for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. We enjoyed the game’s singleplayer a lot in our review, which you can check out by clicking right here.
