Sony is banking on the fact that gamers will see past this holiday season when compiling their Christmas wish lists in 2012. While lacking a big exclusive title on the PlayStation 3 that rivals the likes of Microsoft’s Halo 4 on the Xbox 360, Sony’s VP of Marketing believes that gamers are smart enough to see the big picture.
“You’re buying into a system that has not only a great holiday ahead of it, but a great future ahead of it over the next few years,” said John Koller of Sony. “This isn’t going to be a system that people come into this holiday and then feel like PlayStation abandoned them, and that’s important for us.”
This year at E3 Sony fans got a glimpse of what’s to come from the console. In 2013, the biggest of the big Sony exclusives are set to return. God of War: Ascension, The Last of Us, and Beyond: Two Souls are all slated to arrive in 2013.
This outlook from Sony arrives in spite of many industry analysts predicting that Sony and Microsoft are both readying next-generation hardware. While neither company has announced anything officially, analysts see an industry wide slump until next-gen technology can dig publishers and developers out of the hole.
