It looks like Sony is going to be offering a stripped down version of their newest model PlayStation 3 to North Americans. This new model for North America sounds like it follows its European and Asian cousins, according to a report from Engadget.
The $199 model will come without a hard drive. Instead, the console will have 12GB of flash memory, housed in the PlayStation 3 Super Slim frame. The report claims that this new console was spotted in a retail stockroom in the US. It’s also reported that this model will go on sale in just a matter of days. A packing note said to not display the new console until August 18th.
This 12GB model sounds like an identical match to the one released in Europe last year. We won’t have to wait long to find out if these rumors are true, but Sony has so far declined to comment on the new system. At $199, this new model of the PlayStation 3 is the most affordable way to get in the game.
*Please note: The White PS3 in the image above is NOT the 12GB unit
