The latest hardware sales figures have been revealed by the NPD group, and the month saw a year over year increase in terms of total sales across the board.  While Sony is facing stiffer competition from Microsoft with the release of the Xbox One X and from Nintendo’s Switch, they still came out as the top seller in terms of hardware for the month.

Nintendo Switch is on a record breaking pace

However, Mat Piscatella at NPD says that the Nintendo Switch is on a record setting pace and that much of the growth that was seen year over year is attributed to Nintendo and Microsoft.

“Over the first twelve months in market, Nintendo Switch has achieved the highest installed base for a console platform in history,” says Piscatella via Venture Beat.

An exact breakdown for each console is unknown at the time of writing this, from the healthy software sales and growing hardware sales it’s sounding like the video game industry is doing just fine.  As NPD doesn’t even take into account a number of other revenue avenues for the industry, which includes things like downloadable content or microtransactions.
