The 3DS and PS4 were the two top selling consoles in the video game charts over in Japan for New Year’s.

During the Christmas period, the PS4 lost out to the 3DS and Wii U consoles. In New Year’s though, the PS4 jumped up to second place just falling behind on the 3DS console for the top spot.

As reported by Media Create, the New 3DS XL and PS4 consoles topped the video game charts. They sold 37,227 and 36,559 units respectively over the period of January 4th and January 10th.

The PS Vita and Wii U consoles dropped to third and fourth selling 31,338 and 24,722 respectively. These consoles sold higher during the Christmas period so it’s interesting the PS4 jumped higher in the first week of 2016.

Sony’s console sold well, but actual software was no way near the top of the charts. The best selling game for Sony’s console was Fallout 4 which came in ninth place in the software charts. The top selling games were two 3DS titles being Monster Hunter X and Monster Strike with Splatoon for the Wii U in third place.

Sony must be happy with the way the PS4 sales increased in Japan for the first week of 2016. Japanese gamers might be buying the console in preparation for the many JRPGs that are on the way later this year.
