Sales of the PS4 and Xbox One consoles are healthy at the moment. Collectively, both consoles have managed to sell over 55 million units worldwide as of the end of 2015. The consoles are selling much faster than the PS3 and Xbox 360 consoles.
The new estimates were reported by EA CFO Blake Jorgensen during the latest conference call. According to EA’s research, the PS4 and Xbox One have collectively sold over 55 million units. This is from November 2013 until December 31st, 2015.
EA notes that the two newer consoles are selling 50 percent faster than the PS3 and Xbox 360 consoles. Sony and Microsoft are sure to be happy with the results. Analysts wrongly predicted consoles wouldn’t have been so popular with the rise of smartphones and tablets.
Sony officially announced that the PS4 has sold over 35.9 million units worldwide. If EA estimates are correct, this means the Xbox One has sold around 19.1 million units. Microsoft has stubbornly kept quiet about the console’s sales numbers for a while now so estimates are the only thing we can gather.
2016 is set to be an even bigger year for both consoles as a host of great games have been announced. It will be interesting to see how high the sales will be by the end of 2016.
