This week brought the unfortunate news that Silent Hills had been officially cancelled. The highly-praised P.T. demo, the teaser for Silent Hills, on the PlayStation Store also became just a memory, as it was taken down from the service. PS4 owners who had the demo installed on their system pre-removal have decided to take the opportunity to sell the now unavailable experience on eBay for absurd amounts of money.
A brief glance of the auction site shows PS4s with hard drives housing the P.T. demo asking for up to $2,000. Sure, if you dig a little you might be able to find a real “bargain” at $600. In all seriousness, this is a ridiculous exploitation of people’s high emotions following the anticipated game’s cancellation. It isn’t surprising, and it’s something we’ve seen countless times before, but that doesn’t make it any less irritating.
It is worth noting that it doesn’t look like these P.T.-loaded consoles are actually selling on eBay. The only listings with any bids are sitting around $150-$300, which would be a steal for the console itself regardless of the contents of its storage. Although, it is doubtful that any of those sellers are going to seriously part with their Sony system for well under its current going rate.
