Sony has announced some scheduled maintenance for PSN that will take place on Thursday, Januray 15th, between noon and 4pm Eastern Time. The maintenance is said to be for Sony to “deploy a series of back-end improvements to the network”. With all of the hacking and DDoS issues that have plagued PSN as of late it might not be good news to hear it could have issues once again, but this maintenance will hopefully tighten things up and make the network less prone to outages. Thankfully, PlayStation fans won’t necessarily notice the maintenance, as only a few features will be disabled and others can be accessed if you’ve done a few things.
We wanted to take a moment to inform you of a network maintenance, currently scheduled for Thursday the 15th, from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM Pacific Time
“If you’ve signed in to the network any time prior to October 8th, you will be able to play games online and access partner apps such as Netflix during this maintenance period” says the official PSN maintenance notice. “The PlayStation Store, PlayStation Home and Account Management will not be available during this time, and users may receive a maintenance notification when attempting to access these services.”
So, as long as you’ve been an avid player of PSN you should have most of your access even during the maintenance period. Barring any complications or attacks from groups such as The Lizard Squad, everyone should be back up and running with little interruption.
