Psychonauts 2’s First Trailer Doesn’t Disappoint

It’s been nearly three years since the Psychonauts 2 Fig campaign reached its goal back in January 2016. During that time, Double Fine Productions has made a point of keeping backers up to date every step of the way, something that’s very appreciated considering how risky crowd funding has proven to be for backers. Yet, even though fans have always known more or less where the project is at, it still hasn’t felt real; it hasn’t felt like a real game that’ll be coming to market soon. That feeling was finally dispelled with the release of Psychonauts 2’s very first trailer.

Psychonauts 2 follows Razputin ‘Raz’ Aquato as a newly-inducted member of the “Psychonauts,” an organization dedicated to defending the world against any and all mental threats. Raz is on his way to Psychonaut HQ for the very first time, but it sounds like his time there won’t be easy. Given the grave warning veteran psychonaut Ford Cruller is trying to give him in this trailer, it’s very likely that Raz is going to stumble onto something dangerous enough to threaten everything he cares about. It must also be something dangerous enough to incapacitate most of the rank and file psychonauts too; we wouldn’t be able to have another adventure with Raz if more capable agents were still around.

The original Psychonauts was released all the way back in 2005, meaning long-term fans will have been waiting for this game for about 14 years if Double Fine sticks to the 2019 release window. It’s been an excessively long wait, but given what’s been shown of it so far and the team behind it, it’s very likely that Psychonauts 2 will absolutely be worth it.

Psychonauts 2 is currently slated for release sometime in 2019 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
