Mother 3 is the third and final entry to date of the fan favorite RPG series in Japan, the second of the series in which became Earthbound in the US. We finally got a localization of the first game for the first time in the US last summer with Earthbound Beginnings and now it sounds like there is a good possibility Mother 3 is going to be localized as well.
Ever since the shocking release of Earthbound Beginnings, it’s been hoped that we would eventually get the third entry as well, as it just feels wrong leaving that out. Areas outside of Japan have already been introduced to the lead character Lucas through Super Smash Bros., including him being added as DLC in the latest game as well.
Rumors started swirling yesterday when long time Nintendo follower and journalist Emily Rogers made a tweet that said “Don’t be surprised if Nintendo celebrates a game’s 10th anniversary this year.” She quickly deleted this though and replaced it with just an image of a character from Mother along with a smiley face.
Rogers was recently part of the small group of people with connections that leaked the existence of Paper Mario Wii U, which is supposed coming later this year, so this is the second big leak in a few weeks. However, she started backtracking in her tweets, before saying that she wasn’t getting anyone fired and was recommended to delete her Twitter by her boss according to her last few tweets before doing just that.
You wouldn’t think too much of this, but a few other people who have been connected, including one with the Paper Mario Wii U leak, have come out saying they’ve heard similar things. One specifically said that they heard awhile back that Nintendo of Europe was in the final stages of the localization process on Mother 3.
This could have just been brushed off once again, but now Eurogamer says their source has been saying the same exact thing. They said Nintendo’s goal is to release it for the Wii U Virtual Console this year to celebrate Mother 3’s 10th anniversary of release on the Game Boy Advance in Japan. Likely this is something we could see announced at E3, like with Earthbound Beginnings, but you never know when they could drop the announcement bomb during any upcoming Nintendo Direct before that time.
At this point, the odds of this happening are sounding pretty good, but you must still take it with a grain of salt for the time being in case it turns out not to be true.
