Some new details have emerged about the PS4.5 console that Sony might be releasing in the near future. A rumored new report suggests that the console won’t be getting its own exclusive games.
GiantBomb has now heard from their sources more interesting information about the upcoming PS4.5 console. They are hearing the console is code-named NEO, however no price point has been planned yet.
GiantBomb says: “The NEO will feature a higher clock speed than the original PS4, an improved GPU, and higher bandwidth on the memory“. It was also mentioned every PS4 game from October will ship with a “Base Mode” and a “NEO Mode”.
If you use the NEO mode, games can make use of the hardware upgrades of the PS4.5 console. This can include 4K image output, but games don’t have to be native 4K resolution for this to work.
The report also suggests the new console and the original PS4 will coexist as one community. They will share the same games, same storefront, and same users. All previous digital purchases on PS4 will be carried over if you decide to upgrade.
Lastly, the report says there is still no release date window for the upgraded console. We could see it out later this year, but we have to wait until Sony officially announces it first.
