The Red Dead Redemption 2 Announcement might still be hot off the presses, but that doesn’t mean fans can’t still sepculate. It appears that an online component that many Rockstar fans are familiar with might be making its way into the upcoming title come next year.

It goes without saying that Grand Theft Auto Online has been a complete success for Rockstar Games and we can’t slight them for wanting to mimic that in the upcoming Red Dead Redemption 2. Fan, Bill Wright was curious and found a domain for Red Dead Online and posted it on Twitter. It appears the domain does infact belong to Take-Two Interactive. So it looks like Red Dead Online might be the future online component we refer to what will accompany Red Dead Redemption 2.

In the press release this morning for the announcement Rockstar wrote “The game’s vast and atmospheric world will also provide the foundation for a brand new online multiplayer experience.” One can safely assume that this ‘brand new online experience’ is a comparison of the one that shipped with Red Dead Redemption on the previous generation of consoles which is pretty bare bones, and one dimensional in comparison to what Grand Theft Auto Online has to offer. So it is seemingly likely that is the road Rockstar is taking. However, it should be noted that domain was registered in August of 2015. Development can change, or that may not be what the future online component of the game will be called. So take all this information in with a grain of salt for now. If it does end up being referred to as Red Dead Online, lets hope it ships with heists.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is set to release Fall 2017 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
