Scalebound could very well be a game that’s back in play for Microsoft and the Xbox One if new rumors hold true. Â Despite a recent cancellation of the project, it appears that Microsoft has renewed the rights to this game per a trademark extension.
One of the things that had Xbox One owners so excited about the game is that it was going to be an exclusive, of course. Â But, it was also a Platinum Games project, who have a pretty good track record when it comes to innovation on new IP.
Rumors suggest, however, that this trademark extension is Microsoft staking their claim on the rights to put out a Scalebound game in the future, with or without Platinum Games at the helm. Â They certainly have the resources at Microsoft Studios to take Platinum’s foundation and build off of that premise.
The game was announced to be cancelled at the beginning of 2017 and the reasons were said to be that the developer had hit a number of roadblocks in building the game. Â The possibility of Microsoft picking up the torch and running with it are promising for Xbox One owners who were disappointed by cancellation.
Microsoft does have a lot of other irons in the fire on the exclusive front. Â Crackdown 3, State of Decay 2, and Sea of Thieves are the current known quantities coming from Microsoft in the near future, with E3 2017 just weeks away if Scalebound is to return, that’s a spot where we could likely hear an update about the game.
