Sega’s Final 12 Titles For The Genesis Mini Have Been Announced

Recommended Videos

Sega has announced the final set of games coming to the Genesis Mini, bringing the total count to 42.

Among the list are some obvious picks such as Tetris, Strider and Darius, along with the headscratcher, Virtua Fighter 2, and the notable addition of the underappreciated Alisia Dragoon.

Released in 1992, Alisia Dragoon is a platformer renowned for two things: first, it challenged gender biases in video games by having a female protagonist in an active leading role, rather than a damsel in distress, and second, regions outside of Japan squandering that achievement by replacing the protagonist with a male lead that was typical of the times.

Maybe it was because Sega didn’t think a female lead would sell well outside Japan, or perhaps it foresaw the future and wanted to be like current-era Sony by removing a female character who wasn’t fully-clothed. It doesn’t matter in the end though, because the game didn’t make much of an impact on the market regardless.

At any rate, here is the list of newly-announced titles:

  • Tetris
  • Darius
  • Road Rash II
  • Strider
  • Virtua Fighter 2
  • Alisia Dragoon
  • Columns
  • Dynamite Headdy
  • Kid Chameleon
  • Monster World IV
  • Light Crusader
  • Eternal Champions

As mentioned before, these announced games complete the full set of 42 that was promised when the Genesis Mini was initially announced.

Here’s everything else you can expect once the console arrives:

  • Sonic the Hedgehog
  • Ecco the Dolphin
  • Castlevania: Bloodlines
  • Space Harrier II
  • Shining Force
  • Dr. Robotnik’s Mean Bean Machine
