Senran Kagura Burst Re:Newal Finally Has Western Release Dates

Better late than never.

After waiting for what seems like an eternity, Senran Kagura Burst Re:Newal has finally received release dates in the West.

Specifically, the PlayStation 4 version will arrive on Jan. 18  and Jan. 22 (2019) in Europe and the U.S., respectively, while the Steam version will arrive on Jan. 22 (2019) in both regions.

This has been a long time coming for Senran Kagura fans in the West who have been anxiously awaiting the opportunity to replay Burst using a modern formula. The Japanese version has been out since Feb. 2018, but those on the other side of the world were forced to wait longer than usual due to what turned out to be a change Sony’s censorship policies.

What seemed like an imminent release following Senran Kagura Burst Re:Newal’s appearance at E3 2018, became a long period of silence until XSEED revealed the game would be delayed for an disclosed period of time since the localization team was now required to remove the game’s Intimacy Mode, resulting in the decision to delay both versions so they could have similar release dates.

As for what the removal of Intimacy Mode entails, it means that a relatively inconsequential part of the game will no longer be available in the PS4 version. But while it is wholly optional (unless you want a trophy), you should probably avoid the PlayStation 4 version if you want to send a message to Sony (however small it might be).

Regardless of which version you go for though, both will come in Standard and Special versions (“Tailor-Made” in the U.S., “Shinobi Rivals” in Europe), with the usual special edition goodies, along with varying costume DLC and Gessen Academy’s Yumi as a playable character straight out of the gate. There was also mention of some costume DLC from Estival Versus being available in Burst Re:Newal, but it’s still unclear which of them will make the cut.
