Shenmue 3 Wants Even More Money with New Crowdfunding Options

Shenmue 3’s Kickstarter was a runaway success, taking down the entire website at its launch before going on to reach $6.3 million from over 69,000 backers. However, despite this some of the stretch goals weren’t achieved, with creator Yu Suzuki saying that the team would need $10 million to truly craft his vision for the game.

Now that goal is back on the table with a “Slacker Backer” webpage popping up today, allowing those that didn’t pledge money on Kickstarter to add to the massive sum of money already achieved. The backer rewards and prices seem to be about the same, even offering items that were said to be exclusive before. They’ll still be exclusive, but now to both Kickstarter and website backers.

“For everyone who could not participate in the Shenmue III Kickstarter, we have heard your voice!,” reads the page. “Here is one more chance to show your support and make Shenmue III even better. All funding collected here will be added to the Kickstarter total for the game’s development.”

This new campaign is meant to add to the previous Kickstarter, boosting the pledged amount and hopefully unlocking new stretch goals. Not much has been earned in the few hours it has been up, but that could change as more people become aware. The launch of the site was not quite as memorable as Sony’s E3 2015 announcement.

This new campaign will only run for the next 105 days, ending on December 31st, 2015.
