Sniper Elite 4: New Trailer with New Sniping Goodness

Sniper Elite 4 just got a whole new trailer dedicated to what is going to be different in the game compared to other entries in the series. Lots of good new information for everyone’s favorite Simo Häyhä simulator.

One of the biggest changes is that you can now fix a suppressor to your rifle, something the previous entries in the series only allowed for pistols. Hopefully there are major drawbacks and limits to using the suppressor, so masking your shots with background noise is still important. Reducing the range and penetration would be well within the realm of realism, and give you a reason not to use the suppressor at all times. And speaking of big changes, there is now co op in the series, which is rather exciting. Whether it adds new tactical opportunities, or devolves the game into a cake walk remains to be seen.

The trailer also shows off some of the new enemies that will attempt to stop players from going ballistic on their mates. They look like they could really ruin your day, forcing players to adjust their tactics as new situations arise, instead of just playing Nazi Duck Hunt. Vehicles seem to be more prevalent then they were in other Sniper Elite games, necessitating some clever thinking to take them out. Enemy snipers were not revealed as one of the enemies players would encounter, however it is unlikely that they would remove them from the series. Worst case scenario, it looks as if the multiplayer could scratch the sniper duel itch in the event the main campaign does not actually have counter snipers. Especially since the multiplayer looks more sniping focused, and a lot more fun than it was before. Even the game’s take on horde mode seems like it could work.

Sniper Elite has always been a series for World War II history enthusiasts (it has a Welrod!) and people who want more realistic ballistics in games, and Sniper Elite 4 seems to be continuing that tradition. Maps look bigger, there are more weapons, and more options in the tactics department. It looks like a very solid entry in the series. Sniper Elite 4 releases on February 14 2017 for PC, PS4 and Xbox One.
