Sounds Like Disney Infinity 3.0 May Have Underperformed

Disney has announced its financial earnings and the company made a lot of money off of Star Wars 7: The Force Awakens. However, it sounds like Disney Infinity 3.0 did not perform as well as the company hoped for.

The company did not give out specific unit sales for Disney Infinity 3.0, but one comment about the game gives us a reflection that it didn’t sell as many copies as anticipated.

As noted by Business Wire, “the decrease from Disney Infinity was due to higher inventory reserves and lower unit sales volume“. This may not reflect only Disney Infinity 3.0 by itself, as this can include all of the numerous toys and playsets that have also been released.

The lower sales could be due to oversaturation of the toy/video game market. Not only is there three Disney Infinity games, but you also have Skylanders and now LEGO Dimensions has joined the bandwagon.

Star Wars Battlefront on the other hand helped Disney earn a lot of money. The company earned “higher licensing revenue from the success of Star Wars: Battlefront“. The game sold over 13 million copies since launch.

Disney does not really need to worry though as Star Wars 7: The Force Awakens made over $2 billion at the Box Office. This doesn’t include the money they made through the movie’s toys and other merchandise too.
