Splinter Cell Themed Ghost Recon Wildlands Operation Launching With Free Weekend

On April 10th, Ghost Recon: Wildlands is getting the first of four special events due for 2018.  The first is going to bring a very special guest into the game with Sam Fisher from the Splinter Cell series.  Ubisoft recently teased Fisher’s impending arrival, but today they’ve revealed all the details about this special operation that sees new challenges, missions, characters and equipment added to the game.  Alongside this, Ubisoft is doing a free weekend for Ghost Recon: Wildlands from April 12th through the 15th.

The special mission event begins on the 10th though and players who log into Ghost Recon Wildlands will find that content will be introduced to both the Wildlands main game and Ghost War PvP mode.  There will be a new Player vs. Enemy mission where players will play alongside Sam Fisher in an infiltration mission in Bolivia.  The PvE challenge can be played solo or cooperative with up to four players.  With Sam Fisher in the group, it’s going to be a stealthy, night-time mission, according to Ubisoft.

After completing the mission players will be rewarded with exclusive gear, which includes Fisher’s iconic goggles.  Ubisoft says that the mission will be in the game going forward, but the rewards you can collect are only available during the Special Challenge (which ends on May 16th). A Splinter Cell Gear Pack will also be introduced into the single player side of the game which features melee weapons and guns from that series.

As you may have heard if you’ve watched any of the trailers and teasers for this event, Michael Ironside is returning to voice Fisher in this cameo in Wildlands.  Ironside was missing from the last Splinter Cell game and the iconic voice of the character was surely missed, though rumors from a while ago suggested Ironside was working on something with Ubisoft.  Hopefully, it’s more than this one mission in Wildlands and we’ll hear something concrete regarding when to expect the next full Splinter Cell game.

On the PvP side of things, Ghost War will see the Echelon Assault Class added to the game.  Part of Sam Fisher’s 4th Echelon Squad, this character in Ghost Wars will have access to high-tech equipment.

If you don’t own Wildlands you’ll be able to try it free on April 12 through the 15th.  This promotion will be available on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC.  During the free-trial players will get full access to the game, which includes Ghost War, the Special Operation, and Predator Mission.
