Square Enix had a strong 2014 behind new games like Bravely Default and remasters like Kingdom Hearts HD 2.5 ReMIX, but as we are just beginning 2015, companies are looking to not only build on their past successes but also move forward their plans for the future. With already two games set to releases in the first half of this year with Final Fantasy Type-0 HD and Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster for PS4, Square Enix likely has plenty more up their sleeve and they teased this fact through a special New Years letter from their President Yosuke Matsuda.
Within this letter, Matsuda discussed how they have a “diverse and strong” lineup of upcoming games that are set to be announced or released in 2015.
“Our diverse and strong upcoming lineup, from Blockbuster games to LIVE games will be either announced or released to our customers around the world. We will also continue to work with utmost effort for further expansion of sales channel via download and cloud technology to deliver our content in the optimum form for each of our customers.”
Earlier in the letter, Matsuda described LIVE games as those focused more on the mobile, online, or arcade side, so most games are more intrigued by the Blockbuster games that Square Enix has in the works. There is still hope we may see Final Fantasy XV in 2015, which would definitely fit that bill, but if we do see it release, it would likely be only in Japan this year. Either way, we’ll just have to wait to see what Square Enix has in the pipeline as the year moves forward.
