Star Citizen is starting to really take shape. Sure, some people might argue that there is already Arena Commander to play, but the fact of the matter is, there really hasn’t been anything available that one couldn’t find in another game like Elite: Dangerous, until now.

In a relatively short video, Robert Space Industries, the developer of Star Citizen, has showcased their updated damage model. You get to see them completely trash three starships, but more importantly you get to see how the damage is permanent and completely contextual in terms of what shot it. You also get to see bits getting ripped off as well as the force of projectiles hitting the ship making it twist and turn.

It certainly looks really pretty, the destructive kind of way! The new damage model is slated to release with patch 1.1.0 and you can read all about the knitty-gritty details right here if you’re interested in knowing how they achieved all of it.

Star Citizen is currently being released piecemeal in the form of different playable modules that will eventually culminate in the full game. The current modules available for play are the hangar and Arena Commander. The expected full release of the game is slated for some time in 2016.
