Star Wars Battlefront 2 To Get Two Discounts Shortly After Launch

Star Wars Battlefront 2 is coming out on Nov. 17 and while many are definitely looking to buy it on Day 1, you should know that EA already has plans to have it discounted shortly after its release.

During a recent earnings call, EA exec Blake Jorgensen stated that Battlefront 2 would “most likely” be getting a discount around the time The Last Jedi debuts in theaters on Dec. 15. Similarly, there will also be be some “selective discounts” around the holidays, such as Thanksgiving and Christmas.

The thought of Star Wars Battlefront 2 being discounted so soon after launch can easily be seen as a vote of no confidence from EA. With poor reception towards Mass Effect Andromeda and the closure of Visceral Games, seeing this news would likely lead one to think that EA wanted to end the year on a high note by any means necessary.

However, according to Jorgensen, this couldn’t be farther from the truth.

“That’s the way the games business always has worked,” he notes. “And so if you see the title on discount, don’t read anything into that other than the fact that that’s the way you sell games in the holidays.”

This isn’t the first time that EA has made such a move either. As he notes earlier in the call, Battlefront had a tie-in promotion with Star Wars: The Force Awakens which resulted in a similar price reduction, as well as the release of a free multiplayer map on the planet Jakku — a key location from the film.

However, while there is precedent and the announcement was mostly made to make sure investors are up to speed, the fact still remains that Battlefront 2 will likely get a discount less than a month after its release. Unless you’re serious about multiplayer and want to have that extra month of practice and progression, you’ll be better off waiting for a little while and picking up this title once its discount to save a little dough.

Star Wars Battlefront 2 is due out for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC on Nov. 17.
