Game of Thrones: A Telltale Games Series – First Info Revealed

by Kyle Hanson

Telltale Games just put the finishing touches on The Walking Dead Season 2 and are about to launch into Tales from the Borderlands, but what about their other highly anticipated series? Game of Thrones: A Telltale Games Series just got its first official information teased out since the initial announcement. It isn’t much, but at this point every little piece of info is important as we get ready to dive into Westeros.

…trackers and hunters sworn to Deepwood with clan names like Forrester and Woods, Branch and Bole

The tweet contained the image above, which gave the official name as Game of Thrones: A Telltale Game Series. We’ll probably shorten that to just Game of Thrones for the time being. A quote was included from George R. R. Martin’s most recent novel in the A Song of Ice and Fire series A Dance With Dragons, which says “…trackers and hunters sworn to Deepwood with clan names like Forrester and Woods, Branch and Bole.”

The passage comes from Chapter 38 of A Dance With Dragons. It takes place well after the current point of the HBO show, and involves Theon Greyjoy, House Bolton, and Stannis Baratheon. To say more might spoil some things from the show, so feel free to check out the chapter for yourself if you wish to know more.

Telltale was sure to put emphasis on “Forrester” leading me to believe they will either play a large part in Telltale’s story or possibly be your main character’s family. No member of this family has appeared in the books or show up to this point. The tweet close with the hashtag “Iron from Ice”, which could mean almost anything. Deepwood Motte is a key area in the North having been taken by the Iron Islands during the War of the Five Kings.

Telltale’s Game of Thrones series has been rumored to be a side-story taking place along the main thread contained in the show and novels. All the info released today seems to back this up, with indications you will play as, or interact with, Deepwood Motte, which sits north of Winterfell and is the seat of House Glover.

When Game of Thrones: A Telltale Games Series will begin releasing isn’t known, but with The Walking Dead Season 2 and The Wolf Among Us finished up it should be pretty soon. Keep checking back for more information as it becomes available.
