The Legend Of Zelda Wii U Unlikely To Have Link Speak

Link is one of Nintendo’s most prolific characters of all time, yet after 30 years he has never spoken a single word in the officially released series of video games. It appears he will still stay mute in The Legend of Zelda Wii U.

Zelda Wii U producer, Eiji Aonuma, was interviewed by GamesMaster magazine recently where he shared his thoughts about Link speaking or not. It sounds like he’s not really a fan of Link speaking just yet.

He said:We’ve had a lot of requests from fans to hear [Link’s] voice, and while in some ways I do feel that it could be good to have a game where he speaks, part of me also feels that that air of proud independence he has because he doesn’t speak is a precious part of the individuality of his character. I want to think long and hard about whether changing that would be for the better or not before I make any decision

From the quote provided above, there is a good chance Link will not be talking at all in the upcoming Zelda Wii U video game. The game is already in production so adding a voice actor this late in development won’t be feasible.

Unofficially, Link has spoken in the past, but not in the mainline series. The cringeworthy animated TV show was the first time Link had a voice and the second time was from the Philips CD-i video game.
