According to Nintendo, the official title for Breath of the Wild’s sequel is not the one they have been using, but there is a reason for the mystery behind this decision. Currently, they only refer to the game as “The Sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild,” but that’s because the title itself may jeopardize some of the excitement behind the sequel.
Breath of the Wild was released back in 2017, and since then, thousands of players have been having a blast exploring the open-world game that many Nintendo fans were not expecting. This open-world game reignited the interest many players had for the Legend of Zelda universe. It also helped boost the Nintendo Switch’s popularity, being a stellar launch title for the system.
“The Sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild” was initially announced back in E3 2019, and since then, the game has been referred to as Breath of the Wild 2 by fans even though the game does not yet have an official title. It turns out that Nintendo has been purposely hiding its actual name, and for a good reason.
In an interview with IGN, Nintendo Treehouse’s Bill Thrinen and Nate Bihldorff talked about recent Nintendo reveals, including the next Zelda title. According to them, Nintendo is officially calling the title ” The Sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild” only for now. It’s a rather vague title, but there is a reason behind the secrecy.
As many fans of the series know, the subtitles to past Legend of Zelda games usually hint at what will happen when going through the game, so that is why they do not want to reveal the official title to this next entry. The official title gives away too much, and they do not want players to start guessing the plot or events before it comes out.
Breath of the Wild 2 was initially going to release in 2022, but not too long ago, it was revealed that the game was being delayed until Spring of 2023. All in all, many fans of the series are still excited about this sequel. Breath of the Wild was one of the most played games when it was released back in 2017, and that could certainly be the case for the sequel when it releases next year.
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 is set to be released in 2023.
