The Tomb Raider game franchise was rebooted back in 2013 with a grittier more realistic take on the character and was very very well received, with its sequel Rise of the Tomb Raider being even better. Following in the shoes of the game series, the movie series is also getting rebooted and we finally have some plot details about that film.
A Tomb Raider reboot film was announced awhile ago that will star Academy Award winner Alicia Vikander and is set to be released in 2018. While the movie is not close to filming yet, producer Graham King was interviewed by HeyUGuys at an event for his latest film Allied that is about to release in theaters.
During this interview, King gave a few details about the plot of the Tomb Raider reboot movie, including how Lara Croft will be searching for her father.
“Well this is kind of what we call a ‘back to the roots story’. This is a young Lara Croft in search to see if her father is dead or alive, so it has a very emotional part to it and i think that’s what Alicia found so interesting about it. I think the storytelling is really good and i think we’ve got the right crew and a great director and I think it’s going to be really fun making a film like this.”
While Lara’s father has played a role in the game’s, this is definitely something different that could translate well to the big screen. Look for the Tomb Raider reboot movie to his theaters on March 16, 2018.
