Uncharted 4 Multiplayer Maps and Modes to be Free for All

Taking a cue from many recent AAA game releases, Naughty Dog has announced that Uncharted 4 will offer all of its multiplayer map and game mode DLC for free to all players. The aim of a move like this is to prevent fragmentation of the player base, making sure that more players are engaged with the multiplayer for a long while after release. Of course, not all Uncharted 4 multiplayer DLC will be free, but making these more important elements available at no cost should really improve things for everyone.

On top of this, the things that aren’t made free, such as cosmetic items for your character, will be able to be unlocked via gameplay. This means some type of in-game currency that you will earn by simply playing a lot of Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End.

“This means that the Uncharted 4 Multiplayer community won’t be fragmented by different types of DLC, and that those who are loyal in participating in the community will be rewarded,” explained Naughty Dog. “Our DLC release approach will represent an entirely new direction for Naughty Dog, and we are confident it will have a hugely positive impact and keep the Uncharted 4 Multiplayer community thriving.”

The developer then laid out the four key pillars of their Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End multiplayer philosophy, which includes “Fairness First, An Evolving Experience, DLC Accessible to Everyone, and Unified Community.”

If you wish to gain access to DLC that would otherwise cost money, all you have to do it complete daily challenges and win online matches. This will earn you Relics, which can then be spent in-game to unlock said items. Naughty Dog is quick to point out that this is not “pay to win” as these items will be unlockable via the in-game Relics, making it so paying money is simply a faster way to earn them.

Uncharted 4 hits PS4 on May 10th.
