Unlike the rest of the world, the Wii U console is very popular in Japan as some retailers are selling out.
Japanese website, Gamer Life, reports that stock is scarce in Japan for the Wii U console. It notes that Amazon Japan is “out of stock” at the moment and this is all thanks to the number of sales the console garnered over the Holidays.
The website also noted that many Japanese Twitter users are posting that local video game stores don’t have Wii U consoles in stock either. A strong library of Wii U exclusives is part of the reason why Japanese gamers are buying the console in droves.
Another reason might be due to the imminent release of the NX console in the very near future. Japanese gamers might be buying the older console before missing out. After all, nobody knows if the new console will be backwards compatible or not.
Compared to the Western world, the Wii U is more popular than the PS4 in Japan at the moment. The roles are reversed in lots of other countries with the PS4 on top with the Xbox One being in second place with Nintendo’s console third.
