Will Hideo Kojima Be At The Game Awards 2015?

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain has now been out for over three months, serving as Hideo Kojima’s swan song with the franchise. With that game bound to have a big presence at The Game Awards, one has to wonder if Kojima would make an appearance on Thursday night and Geoff Keighley has weighed in on that possibility.

The last year and a half has certainly been an interesting one for Kojima, from the announcement of Silent Hills through P.T., followed by his supposed breakup with Konami, which led to the cancellation of Silent Hills.

Now with Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain out, Konami is still claiming Kojima is still on vacation, though it is all but a foregone conclusion that he is gone at the end of the year. However, could Kojima make an appearance during The Game Awards to get one last victory lap with the series?

This question was asked to Geoff Keighley during a recent Q&A through the Periscope app.

“That’s a great question. Lots of debate and discussion about that over the past few weeks. Stay tuned. We hope to have clarity on that shortly. But I’ve been talking to Hideo, and we hope that he’ll be able to be a part of the celebration.”

This is far from a definitive answer either way, but it’s good to see that Keighley has had conversations with Kojima on the topic and that he’s hoping for it to happen. Kiefer Sutherland is also set to appear, so it would be great to see Kojima as well. The only reason I could see him not is if Konami has some say in it still while he’s under contract, but I know many would love to see him appear.

Either way, I’m sure he would be a surprise guest either way, so we’ll have to wait and find out on Thursday night, December 3 at 9:00 pm.
