Xbox One Achievement Recording is an optional feature

Despite statements to the contrary, the Xbox One will not record every achivement you unlock, automatically. A report came out of the EB Games Expo in Australia over the weekend that suggested that the console would have this feature, but Microsoft’s Albert Penello has since cleared the air on this subject on NeoGaf.

It won’t be automatic for every achievement, says Penello

According to Penello, “It won’t be automatic for every Achievement. It’s a feature that Developers can unlock for achievements, OR, for instance, have hidden in the game for doing something cool or discovering something hidden. Basically we allow developers access to GameDVR and they can put conditions on an automatic recording. But not every Achievement will automatically be recorded.”

It sounds like it will be up to developers to initiate whether or not the console will actually record the activity. The original report also suggested that developers could use the Kinect camera to record a live reaction feed to unlocking an achievement. From the sounds of it, it kinda rekindles an idea that was brought forth in Burnout Paradise that had the Xbox camera able to take snapshots when your opponents crashed.

The Xbox One DVR functionality allows players to capture gameplay and record commentary directly through the Xbox One console. While sharing to social networks won’t see the light of day at launch, the DVR functions will work on day one.
