Xbox Live Down Again – Purchased Content and 0x80072efe Errors

With a repeat of last night’s outage, Xbox Live is down again today across the US and in places around the world. The outage is essentially the same as the one that lasted a few of hours last night, starting at 7pm and running until past 10pm. This current one has lasted almost 30 minutes as of this posting at 2pm, and we’re not sure how long it will last. Expect to receive errors when trying to launch any purchased content, including the dreaded 0x80072efe error that was being issued yesterday.

Purchased content is mostly games, though having your Xbox One set as your home console can get you around the issues. Many streaming apps such as YouTube and HBO Go will be impacted as well, though Netflix was working for me last night. That could be a fluke though, as this error has been widespread and quite impactful across Xbox Live users.

This Xbox Live outage is also not limited to the Xbox One, so those on Xbox 360, and using apps on any number of devices will also be affected in some ways. The current outage also lists Xbox Live Core Services as limited, so it could be even worse than what we saw before. We’ll keep this post updated with any news, and you can read Microsoft’s official response below.

“Our engineers and developers are actively continuing to work to resolve the issue causing some members to have problems finding previously-purchased content or purchasing new content. Stay tuned, and thanks for your patience.”

Another word of warning is to not try to buy anything during this time period. Especially in-game purchases, such as Rocket League keys or anything like that. Many saw issues once the Xbox Live outage was over where they did not receive the items they had purchased, forcing a call to customer service.
