The Xbox One console sold pretty well in France in 2014, but it still didn’t manage to pass the Wii U when it comes to overall sales.
French publication, Le Figaro, reported on the sales figures for the major console companies in France for the year of 2014.
The PS4 is in first place with total sales of 1.1 million units. The console sold 860,000 units in 2014 alone. The Wii U has total sales of 515,000 units. It sold 240,000 units in 2014. The Xbox One’s total sales are at 416,000 units. However, it sold more than the Wii U in 2014 selling 290,000 units.
Le Figro predicts the Xbox One will eventually surpass the Wii U in France thanks to attractive console bundles. They noted bundling the Xbox One with Assassin’s Creed Unity was a smart move. However, they did say Microsoft’s approach was more aggressive in North America with the $50 price drop. There is no Xbox One price drop for in France.
The PS4 and Sony may have won the console race, but Nintendo was the most successful games publisher in France says Le Figro. Nintendo games sold 4.5 million units in France in 2014. EA and Ubisoft were in the second and third positions. 3DS games did very well in France with Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire being the number one title. Games like Mario Kart 8 and Super Smash Bros. also sold very well too.
