It’s just a few days away from Sega’s Yakuza Studio New Titles Presentation, but thanks to a leak from the Taiwanese PlayStation Store we now at least one title that will be announced during the event: Yakuza Kiwami 2.
Yakuza Kiwami 2, according to the listing, is a remake of Yakuza 2 and is built using the latest iteration of the Dragon Engine which was used in Yakuza 6: The Song of Life. Furthermore, just like Kiwami, it will be getting re-recorded audio and presumably other upgrades that its predecessor got as well.
Unfortunately, this announcement means that a major surprise has already been ruined for fans who had eagerly been waiting for the New Titles Presentation on Aug. 26. However, since series director Toshihiro Nagoshi already stated that multiple titles will already be revealed during the event, it’s comforting to know that the entire event hasn’t already been spoiled.
Of course, now that we know that Yakuza Kiwami 2 is a thing, its only logical to wonder when it will be coming to the West. The title doesn’t even have a Japanese release date, so its unlikely the title will be arriving there anytime before late 2017. If that turns out to be the case, then the earliest this title would arrive here would be mid-late 2018, making it the second year in a row the West gets two Yakuza releases in a single year (the first would be Yakuza 6 which arrives in March).
Fortunately, a release date is something that Western fans won’t have to consider for quite some time. Not only do they have to wait until next week for Yakuza Kiwami to arrive, but they still have Yakuza 6 to look forward to.
As a reminder, be sure to check out the Yakuza Studio New Titles Presentation on Aug. 26 from 19:00 to 20:00 JST. Just because one announcement has been spoiled doesn’t mean you have to miss out on the whole thing.
