Yooka-Laylee is expected to deliver on the classic single player mascot platformer action that games like its inspiration Banjo Kazooie delivered on N64, but now it has been confirmed that you can get your friends involved if you want to. Developer Playtonic has confirmed that the game will feature multiplayer modes and a co-op mode, which was revealed in a new trailer you can check out at the bottom of this post.

For the co-op mode, one player will control Yooka and Laylee while the other controls the Bee Team. The Bee Team serves as more of a helper rather than a full-on second player, collecting quills and butterflies or disarming traps to make player one’s journey easier.

The game will also feature 8 arcade modes that can be played via single player or multiplayer with up to 4 players. “Compete in the Glaciators brawler arena to collect the most quills, race to the finish line in Kartos Karting, fight for the flag in Blag the Flag, blast away the enemies in shoot-em-up Gun-let Run and traverse both Jobstacle Course and Hurdle Hijinx, plus more!”

Finding Play Coins in the single player campaign will allow you to power up the arcade cabinets that feature these games.

Yooka-Laylee was originally set to be getting a Wii U version that Kickstarter backers pledged for, but the developers decided to cancel that version in favor of one for the Nintendo Switch. However, that version of the game will not be ready for the game’s launch, as we’re still waiting for an official release date for the Nintendo Switch version. It will also be getting a physical release, for those of you who prefer physical to digital.

Yooka-Laylee will launch for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC on April 11th. Fans who pledged a certain amount to the game’s Kickstarter campaign were able to try out a “Toybox demo” for the game last year, and you can check out our positive impressions of it by clicking right here.
