You Don't Need a 4K TV for the Xbox One X to Improve Your Games News Xbox One X

The Xbox One X is billed as a console that’s going to bring 4K gaming to the living room, but not everyone has a 4K television just yet.  If you don’t have a 4K TV should you buy an Xbox One X?  According to Microsoft that answer is yes as there are going to be numerous enhancements to games that go far beyond a bump in resolution.

Microsoft recently outlined what their Xbox One X Enhanced program is.  Basically, it’s a term that encompasses all of the upgrades that can be made to a game by the developer.  Whether that’s 4K resolution, upgraded textures, improved framerates, and other improvements, the term covers it all.

As explained by Microsoft the term “Enhanced” covers everything, it means that the game will not only run better and look better on a 4K display, but that it will run and look better on a 1080p display as well.  For those that do still own 1080p displays the Xbox One X is going to use a feature called supersampling to scale down a 4K image for a 1080p screen.

The result is that those with a 1080p display will get benefits like better textures, better framerates, and an overall improvement to the image quality that is found on the Xbox One or Xbox One S.  Microsoft claims that depending on how a game was developed, even if they aren’t deemed as “Xbox One X Enhanced” you should see better visual fidelity simply by playing it on the new console.

Microsoft’s aim for the Xbox One X is to make it the go to place for all games to be played at their highest fidelity.  The console is due out on November 7th, 2017 and is currently available for pre-order.

Yeah think might have been better for the “highend PC” to say do 1080 at 60fps!!!!! But its all just gimmicks with M$

I’m very excite for this console. My tv right now isn’t 4K but I will buy this because it seems like everything is better anyway. I think Sony will be behind now until ps5.

Well that’ll be nice. I’ve 3 1080p screens and don’t plan to upgrade until one of the panels burns out or the TV is damaged.

Do I want a 4K TV? Eventually, but I see no big push to get one as of yet.

Don’t see the point. The Xbox one x is too late and you can get the exclusives for Windows 10. Still not enough good 4k content available and a decent 4k TV is still a £1,000 +. Give it another half year to a year and the price of a good 4k TV will drop.

I wouldn’t mind an Xbox one S, decent 4k blu ray player and backwards compatibility, 360 games are dirt cheap.
