Zelda Producer Feels Wii U GamePad’s Dual View “Disrupts The Gameplay”

The Legend of Zelda producer has been doing a lot of talking about the new Zelda game lately, and with it has come some revelations that Nintendo has had about the Wii U’s GamePad. While many Wii U games utilize the GamePad for inventory management, sometimes they would actually require you to keep eyes on the GamePad nearly as much as the TV screen.

This feature has not been something all that popular with gamers, and it looks like Zelda producer Eiji Aonuma agrees. In a recent interview with Wired Aonuma said the following:

“We realized that having something on the GamePad and looking back and forth between the TV screen and the GamePad actually disrupts the gameplay, and the concentration that the game player may be experiencing. You have your car’s GPS system on your dash. If you had it down in your lap, you’re going to get into an accident!”

It’s good to know that Nintendo is at least aware of the occasionally cumbersome situation that using the GamePad too much can cause, and that the new Zelda game won’t have any ham-fisted GamePad mechanics like the latest Star Fox game. Hopefully!

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild will launch for the Wii U and NX in 2017.
