Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky expressed significant concern regarding recent actions taken by President Trump, specifically involving a deal to import diesel fuel from Russia. During an interview on Piers Morgan Uncensored, Zelensky noted that he felt betrayed by the arrangement, which he believes has granted Russian President Vladimir Putin an easy victory.
As reported by the NY Post, he argued that the move suggests the United States is no longer supporting his country, stating, “It is a pity that we are losing a strong partner.” Zelensky shared his frustrations during the half-hour interview, emphasizing that the decision places the United States on the wrong side of the conflict.
He explained, “It’s painful when President Trump chooses one side, not our side,” and added that while he prefers the United States to stay in the middle, this move represents a departure from that stance. He explicitly warned President Trump that he had chosen the wrong side, noting, “I think his advisers are wrong. I don’t know who is pushing him. Not to the right side, this is not the right side of history.”

The diesel deal, which President Trump announced, involves Russia supplying more than 300,000 metric tons of diesel to global and United States markets. Zelensky mentioned that he initially viewed the concept of an energy ceasefire as a potential step toward peace, even if he considered it the worst version of peace.
He noted that Ukraine refrained from attacking energy objects for three days as a gesture of cooperation. However, he stated that Russia continued to target Ukrainian infrastructure, including gas stations, despite this period of restraint.
In addition to his concerns regarding the energy deal, Zelensky addressed issues involving Elon Musk and the Starlink internet system. Ukrainian officials alleged that access to a military version of the system was limited without warning, which disrupted combat drone operations.
Zelensky expressed his belief that the restriction was intentional, stating, “I am sure they knew what they did, absolutely.” He pointed to a specific timeframe, mentioning, “Because it was 1 a.m. at night, [when] Starlink was blocked by SpaceX and the United States.”
Zelensky highlighted the real-world consequences of these service interruptions, noting that they hindered defensive efforts. He stated, “So people were killed because, not enough destroying, not enough interceptors, including interceptors with Starlink, which didn’t work. Of course.”
When asked if he felt angry with Musk regarding the stunted service, Zelensky replied, “Yes, I think he is not right.” He characterized the situation as a major error, adding, “It’s a big mistake…This decision will bring a lot of human losses… Of course, people will die. Of course, if attacks will continue and if Starlink will not work, it’s not helpful.”
Despite his strong criticism, Zelensky indicated he hopes the situation with Starlink was the result of a technical error rather than a deliberate policy choice. He stated, “So my message is absolutely, I hope that it’s a mistake, maybe a huge technical problem, I don’t know. But we are asking to do it, to switch it on.”
