A bridesmaid says the bride sent a 12-page contract requiring weigh-ins at every event, and she quit on the wedding day over a $300 hairstyle fix

Bridesmaid duties usually come with a dress and a bachelorette trip, and most people know the costs going in. A bridesmaid in a viral TikTok storytime says her bride went much further, as she allegedly sent a 12-page contract that included a rule about weight gain. The video from TikTok creator Kels has pulled in hundreds of thousands of views, according to the Daily Dot.

Kels, who posts as @kelsgordon, tells the story in the first person and asks whether she was justified in dropping out as a bridesmaid on the wedding day. However, her page, which has more than 775,000 followers, mixes makeup videos and vlogs with Reddit storytimes, and the video does not make clear whether the events happened to her or to a Reddit poster whose account she is reading.

According to the story, the bride, given the pseudonym Macy, sent the 12-page PDF about a week after the bridal party was finalized. The bridesmaid says she expected a “Type A bride” going in. However, the contract went further than she imagined, as one rule required bridesmaids to tell the bride if they gained more than five pounds.

The weight rule is what pushed this bridesmaid story over the edge for viewers

The contract also allegedly required bridesmaids to attend every wedding event and banned any haircut or color change without the bride’s approval. Weigh-ins were reportedly planned for all bridal events, so the rule would have been checked in person. In the video, the storyteller says the weight clause was the one that left her “absolutely flabbergasted” when she first read the contract.

The storyteller says she had a sense the bride would be demanding from the start, and she had already planned to step back from the friendship once the wedding was over. She adds that there comes a point where a person simply can’t take any more, which is how she explains walking away on the day itself.

Costs became the next sticking point, as the bachelorette schedule allegedly came to more than $4,000 for a two-day trip. The bride also supposedly set a $50 fine for anyone who showed up more than 10 minutes late to an event. One other bridesmaid dropped out after the bachelorette events, according to the story, though the story does not detail why she left.

In a text message, the bride allegedly wrote that bridesmaids had to put their own needs “on the back burner” for the wedding, as the day should be about the bride. Bachelorette costs are a common sore spot, and the $4,000 trip in this story echoes a bridesmaid dreading her best friend’s bachelorette over a similar mix of money and group pressure.

On the wedding day, an on-site stylist reportedly offered to redo the bridesmaid’s hair for $300, and she says she dropped out of the bridal party that same day. Commenters largely backed the bridesmaid, singling out the weigh-ins and the $4,000 price tag as the most unreasonable parts of the story.

Whether the bride ever responds remains to be seen. It is also still unclear whether the story belongs to Kels or to a Reddit user, which could change how viewers read the account and the bride’s alleged rules for her bridal party.

Attack of the Fanboy was unable to independently verify the bride’s side of the story, as this account originates solely from Kels’s TikTok video.
