A dad allegedly bashed a man in the face with a metal water bottle over cheering at a girls’ softball game, leaving him with brain bleeds

A Texas couple has been charged with assault after an argument over cheering at a youth girls’ softball game in Sugar Land allegedly turned into a fight that left two men injured. Kiarious Hall, 36, is accused of two counts of assault causing bodily injury, and his wife, Jazmine Hall, 36, is accused of one count.

The charges are listed in Fort Bend County court records, according to Law&Crime. The incident happened around 7:30 p.m. on a Saturday at Imperial Park in Sugar Land, a suburb roughly 20 miles southwest of Houston. Police arrived about 10 minutes later and spoke with the couple about what had happened.

Kiarious Hall told police he and his wife were cheering for their daughter when a man approached, upset about the noise, and told him he “couldn’t cheer before the players pitched the ball.” Hall said he kept cheering. He told officers that a second man then came over, and that the fight started when that man grabbed him and poked him in the chest.

Police say video of the softball fight shows a metal water bottle being swung

Hall allegedly admitted to punching the second man in the face, causing him to fall and hit his head, and said the man was knocked unconscious. Witnesses showed officers video of the incident, though police said it was unclear whether either man attacked Hall first, as the camera angle did not capture that clearly. However, police said the footage captured what happened next.

According to police, the video shows Hall swinging a metal water bottle and hitting the man who fell unconscious, then swinging the bottle again at the first man and fighting with him. The footage also allegedly shows Jazmine Hall joining in and pushing the first man. Kiarious Hall and the first man were eventually separated, police said.

An attorney for the man who was allegedly hit with the bottle said his client suffered a broken jaw, a fractured skull and brain bleeds. The first man told a Houston TV station that he needed seven stitches to his chin, had extensive scrapes and broke his hip after he was allegedly tackled into the bushes by Jazmine Hall.

The first man said the dispute began when he and others asked Hall why he was getting loud, calling it bad sportsmanship to yell right as a pitch is coming while their girls were batting. He claimed Hall responded that he could do whatever he wanted. However, he said things quickly escalated, later comparing the softball fight to “medieval times.”

The case adds to a string of youth sports confrontations that ended with serious injuries, including one where an Ohio father suffered a brain injury at his son’s high school baseball game. The first man said he stepped in to try to disarm Hall, as he was worried Hall would do the same thing to someone else.

The couple was booked into the Fort Bend County Jail and later released after posting bond. Jazmine Hall has since resigned from her job as an assistant principal at Lamar Junior High School in nearby Rosenberg. The two injured men have not been publicly named, and the Halls’ side of the story beyond what they told police has not been reported.

Neither Kiarious nor Jazmine Hall has been convicted of a crime, and both men’s injuries could factor into how the case moves forward as prosecutors review the evidence, including the video witnesses shared with police.
