Pokemon Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire are really fun, but only truly hit the next level when you dive deep into the mechanics and figure out how to best other people in the real world. To do this you’ll need the best team possible, which means your Pokemon will need to be the best they can be. In order to accomplish this you’ll have to start breeding Pokemon. Thankfully, breeding has become easier than ever, resulting in more perfect Pokemon that you can use when battling other trainers. This guide will walk you through each step of the process, in order for you to get the exact Pokemon that you want on your team.
Basics
Before you start breeding Pokemon in Pokemon Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire, you need to have a firm grasp on the basics. There are a few terms that you’ll need to know to understand what you need to do and why you need to do it.
- IVs
- IVs, or individual values, are a number assigned to each stat a Pokemon has
- These numbers determine the overall potential of your individual Pokemon
- When breeding you will want to focus on getting perfect IVs transferred to the new Pokemon
- Egg Group
- These group determine which Pokemon can breed with each other
- For expert breeding this won’t come into play, but we’ll go over it just in case
- Nature
- Each Pokemon has a specific nature that alters its stats
- If you are going for a totally perfect Pokemon you’ll need to know which nature you want and breed for it
OK, with the terms out of the way we can get to the nitty-gritty of it all.
How To
If you’re wanting to breed Pokemon, the first step is to know exactly how breeding is done in game. Breeding is handled at the Pokemon Day Care, where you can drop off up to two Pokemon to be watched while you go on your adventures. One Day Care is found early on in the game, and another is available at the Battle Resort after completing the Delta Episode in Pokemon Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire. The two Pokemon will then attempt to breed together, and if they are in the proper Egg Groups then an egg will be waiting for you when you return to the Day Care. It is really that simple, but the hard part is determining which two Pokemon to leave there to breed. These will need to be specially tailored to produce the Pokemon that you want. Let’s use Bulbasaur as an example for the purposes of this guide.
If you want to breed any old Bulbasaur then you can take yours and drop them off at the Day Care with another Bulbasaur, or another Pokemon in the same Egg Group, which would be Grass. When you return there is a chance the egg you grab will contain a Bulbasaur. However, this is tedious and doesn’t produce the desired results everytime. In order to ensure you get the right Pokemon, and making it so you never have to worry about Egg Groups again, you’ll want to use a Ditto.
Once you have the two Pokemon you want to breed just drop them off at the Day Care Center at the Battle Resort. Walk around for a bit, checking in randomly. Eventually an egg will be there. Take the egg and hold it in your team as you walk around, there is a fantastic, continuous path available at the Battle Resort as well. Keep checking in if you want to grab multiple eggs. Eventually they will begin to hatch and you’ll have a new Bulbasaur, hopefully with some of the elements you are breeding for. To speed up the hatching process you can keep a Pokemon with the Flame Body ability in your team, such as Ponyta or Litwick.
Ditto
Ditto is the key to quick and easy Pokemon breeding. Throw any Pokemon with a Ditto, no matter the gender or Egg Group and you are guaranteed to have them breed, and for the resulting child to be the Pokemon you bred with Ditto. So, for Bulbasaur we just put Bulbasaur and Ditto together in the Day Care and we’ll end up with an egg containing a Bulbasaur soon after. The big question left is, where can I find a Ditto? That, unfortunately is much harder in Pokemon Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire than it was in X & Y. If you still have your copy of X & Y laying around, I would suggest using it to get the Dittos you’ll use for breeding here. Just head to the Friend Safari and hope that you have streetpassed with someone who offers Ditto. This is the best place to get Dittos because each one is guaranteed to have at least two perfect IVs, which will help in the long run toward our quest to get the perfect Bulbasaur.
If you don’t have Pokemon X & Y then you’ll have to use Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire to get your Dittos. These will only appear in select Mirage Spots that pop up later in the game. Various Mirage Spots and Caves, so just keep checking each one that appears and eventually you’ll spot one that offers Dittos. Once you do find one, stick with it and utilize the DexNav as much as possible. The stars that show up on the scanner are actually the number of perfect IVs that the Pokemon already has, and the more you encounter them the higher the chance of finding one with a lot. Look for ones with three or more stars, as that will set you up perfectly for breeding those perfect IV Pokemon.
