The Next Red Dead Redemption might be coming to PC

While Red Dead Redemption fans are patiently awaiting confirmation from Rockstar Games that a sequel is in the works for the popular open-world western,  a new rumor might indicate that the next iteration in the series will be a PC release of the original Red Dead game, not Red Dead Redemption 2.

When Red Dead Redemption launched in 2010, Rockstar passed on launching a PC version of the game.  Being such a popular and praised title on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, PC players pleaded with Rockstar for a Steam release, for years now.  After the launch of GTA V, it seemed like the time for a PC release of Red Dead Redemption had passed.   Though a new listing discovered on NeoGAF reveals Rockstar may be testing compatibility with newer operating systems.

Finding the game on the Windows Compatibility site isn’t exactly an official confirmation, but it does open the doors of possibility once again.  Last year it was discovered that Rockstar was hiring for developers to port their games to the PC platform, and it wouldn’t be a huge stretch of the imagination to have them working on something that could be as potentially profitable for the company as a PC release of Red Dead Redemption.

Furthermore, if there is a Red Dead Redemption sequel on the way, a PC release or “definitive edition” could help drum up hype for the new game… not that it would need it.  Fans of the Red Dead series have been prodding Rockstar for answers about another Red Dead Redemption game for some time.  As usual, Rockstar’s been hush-hush on the subject, though they did confirm that Red Dead is a series that they intend to continue.   Analysts have also already started factoring in Red Dead Redemption 2 to the company’s future earnings.  Given that Rockstar Games marches to the beat of their own drum, projecting a timeline for any of this would be a complete crapshoot.
