The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is easily one of the most anticipated games of the year, particularly for those looking to pick up a Nintendo Switch at launch. Unfortunately, however, while the Switch’s worldwide launch is set for March, the newest entry in the Zelda franchise may not make it to everyone at once.

Tom Phillips at Eurogamer, who has a pretty good track record when it comes to predictions and rumors concerning the Switch, reports that the localization process for Breath of the Wild is causing Nintendo some problems, particularly the European version of the game.

There’s some good news for everyone outside of Europe, though, as The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is slated for a March release in North America and Japan. This is a reversal of prior reports that the game wouldn’t make the launch window at all, due to rumors late last year that put the game “four to six months” away from being completed.

That seems to no longer be the case, as Nintendo apparently now feels the game is complete – or at least, complete enough – to be released alongside the Switch so the new console can have as strong a launch lineup as possible. After the dismal performance of the Wii U, that seems like a good decision, as long as the open nature of Breath of the Wild doesn’t lead to many unintended bugs and glitches.

A new Mario title is rumored for the Switch’s launch as well, which might mitigate some of the disappointment for Europe if these reports are indeed true. The good news is the public doesn’t have to wait much longer to find out for sure: Nintendo has scheduled a special livestream presentation of the Switch’s launch lineup, price, and other details for January 12th at 8 p.m. Pacific Time.

If the Switch doesn’t end up launching with a Zelda title, will that impact your decision on whether or not to pick one up at launch? What titles are you hoping to see the Switch launch with?
