Georgia Coroner Calls 2-Year-Old’s Death Accidental, So Why Is The Daycare Owner Sitting In Jail On Murder Charges?

Two hours unsupervised, two Rottweilers, one dead child.

A coroner in Georgia has ruled the death of 2-year-old Kaimir Jones as accidental, but the woman who was supposed to be watching him still faces serious criminal charges that could send her to prison for decades. Kaimir died on October 4, 2025, after being attacked by two Rottweilers at an unlicensed daycare in Valdosta, Georgia.

Stacy Wheeler Cobb, 48, was running the daycare out of her home when it happened. Police say she left the toddler alone for more than two hours while she took a nap. During that time, investigators believe Kaimir made his way into the backyard and opened the kennel where the dogs were kept. The animals then mauled him to death. The Lowndes County Coroner’s Office said the cause of death was multiple force trauma and called the manner of death accidental.

As per ABC News, even with this ruling, prosecutors have charged Cobb with second-degree murder and second-degree cruelty to children. Both are felonies that carry up to 30 years in prison. “This is a horrible and tragic event that should have never occurred, but because of negligence on this offender’s behalf, a mother has tragically lost a child,” said Valdosta Police Chief Leslie Manahan.Retry

How A Mother’s Gut Feeling Led To A Heartbreaking Discovery

Kaimir’s mother, Adrianna Jones, had dropped her son off at Cobb’s home that morning before going to work. She got worried when Cobb didn’t reply to her messages for three hours. This was strange because Cobb usually checked in throughout the day. Her gut told her something was wrong, so she left work early.

When Jones got to Cobb’s home around 3:45 p.m., police were already there. “This was a heartbreaking, devastating and traumatizing scene that I wouldn’t wish on anyone,” Jones wrote in the fundraiser. According to the mother, camera footage captured what happened to her son.

Kaimir was the only child at the daycare that day, though police say Cobb usually looked after around 10 children at her home. The fact that the daycare was unlicensed has become a big part of the investigation. Valdosta Police Chief Leslie Manahan called it “a horrible and tragic event that should have never occurred, but because of negligence on this offender’s behalf, a mother has tragically lost a child.”

Lowndes County Animal Control took the two Rottweilers involved in the attack, along with a third dog that was at the home. The case involving a young child’s tragic death is expected to go before a grand jury in December or January. Police say they expect more charges as the investigation goes on. Cobb remains in the Lowndes County Jail without legal representation.
