A man from Wisconsin is now in court facing murder charges. Matthew Pahl is accused of killing his girlfriend, Stephanie Pavlons. Her body was found in the woods over two years ago.
According to Court TV, Pahl is charged with first-degree intentional homicide and hiding a corpse. His trial started on Monday, October 27, 2025. Pavlons was last seen on August 23, 2022, when she left the apartment where she lived with Pahl.
What police found on his phone is chilling. When detectives looked through Pahl’s cell phone, they saw he was talking to two Skype accounts. The account names were “Mejyn” and “beautiful disaster.” The messages were sexual. In his chats with both accounts, Pahl talked about wanting to move to the Philippines. He never told anyone his girlfriend was missing.
The Victim’s Parents Paint A Troubling Picture
Pavlons’ parents talked to police about their daughter’s relationship. They said she and Pahl had been together for 20 years. But it was not a stable relationship. They broke up and got back together many times. Pavlons’ mother thought her daughter was being abused at home.
Construction workers found Pavlons’ body while they were putting up “No Trespassing” signs in a wooded area. Her body had been there for a long time and was badly decomposed. The medical examiner could not figure out how she died because the body was in such bad condition. In a similar case, a hiker discovered a woman’s body in South Dakota, which led to murder charges against a U.S. airman.
Security cameras at their apartment building recorded both Pahl and Pavlons leaving on August 23. But only Pahl came back. He was carrying her purse and water bottle when he returned alone.
The evidence against Pahl keeps adding up. He did not report that his girlfriend was gone. The video footage shows him coming back with her things. The messages on his phone were strange and troubling. In other murder cases, investigators have found chilling Google searches on suspects’ devices that helped prove they were guilty. The trial is still going on as lawyers present their evidence about what happened to Stephanie Pavlons.
