Former Republican congressman Adam Kinzinger from Illinois is going after fellow Republican Marjorie Taylor Greene in a big way. Kinzinger, who decided not to run for office again in 2022, just made some pretty harsh comments about the Georgia representative as her relationship with Republican leaders gets worse.
At the Texas Tribune Festival on Friday, Kinzinger didn’t hold back about what he thinks Greene is really up to, as per The Hill. He thinks her recent attacks on other Republicans might be part of a plan for something much bigger down the road.
While talking to the crowd, Kinzinger called Greene the “biggest con artist ever” and said people shouldn’t believe she’s actually changed. “She has not found Jesus, OK?” he told everyone there. He also said that Greene “clearly wants to run for president,” which made people in the audience laugh. But Kinzinger warned them not to laugh too hard, reminding everyone, “But dude, we giggled when Trump wanted to run in 2015, right?”
So what’s really going on with Marjorie Taylor Greene?
Greene has been causing problems lately by going against her own party on different topics. Just last week, she said the Trump administration was lying to people about how expensive things are, even though President Trump himself has said this issue is over and done with. Trump noticed what she said and wasn’t happy about it. On Friday night, he took back his support for Greene and posted on Truth Social calling her “Wacky” and a “ranting Lunatic.”
Trump also said he’d back someone else if they wanted to run against Greene in her Georgia district. “I understand that wonderful, Conservative people are thinking about primarying Marjorie in her District of Georgia, that they too are fed up with her and her antics,” he posted. He even brought up Greene’s appearance on The View, saying she shouldn’t have gone on a show with people who hate Republicans.
Greene didn’t stay quiet after Trump’s post. She wrote online that Trump “attacked me and lied about me” and said he was trying to scare other Republicans into staying in line. She talked about how she’s been pushing for a vote to make the Justice Department release all their files on Jeffrey Epstein.
Greene also reminded people how much she’s done for Trump over the years, saying, “I have supported President Trump with too much of my precious time, too much of my own money, and fought harder for him even when almost all other Republicans turned their back and denounced him. But I don’t worship or serve Donald Trump.”
Greene hasn’t just been arguing with Trump lately. She also went after House Speaker Mike Johnson because she said he promised to show a Republican health care plan but never did. She’s spoken out against letting foreign workers come to America on H-1B visas and has called what Israel is doing in Gaza a “genocide.” On top of all that, Greene has asked for investigations into different issues that matter to her.
Kinzinger said before that Republicans are starting to fight with each other more and more, and what’s happening with Greene seems to prove he was right. Nobody really knows if Greene actually believes her new positions or if she’s just setting herself up for a future run at higher office, but Kinzinger clearly thinks she’s playing everyone.
