A man on TikTok says he found something weird floating in his Monster Energy drinks, and his video about it has blown up online. The clip has gotten over 2.7 million views, with people arguing about whether what he found is actually plastic or something else entirely.
The TikToker, who goes by @stayton_r, recorded himself opening a brand new can of Monster Zero Sugar and pouring it into a clear plastic container. Once the drink was in the container, he grabbed a light and held it up to show off some small, clear pieces floating around inside. “Oh yeah, you can see it right there,” he told the camera. “There’s so much plastic in this one.”
He wrote in his post that he’s ready to take legal action against the company. “i want a lawsuit against monster. I bought a 12 pack and so far there’s been 5 cans that have had plastic in them,” he explained, as per Bro Bible. Someone else in the room can be heard telling him to “Sue ’em.”
Not everyone is convinced it’s actually plastic
Plenty of viewers jumped into the comments to say they don’t think it’s plastic at all. A lot of people pointed out that what he’s seeing could be something much simpler and less scary. This isn’t the first time consumers have raised concerns about what they’re getting, as restaurants have also faced scrutiny over how they treat customers.
“This looks more like ice crystals…” one commenter said. Another person wrote, “Ppl fall for everything… it’s ice ppl left it in the freezer for a bit.” One viewer even joked around, saying, “That’s ice from a glacier in Alaska….”
Some people told him he should actually test what he found before going after Monster. “Get a strainer, pour out thru it and actually see what your pouring out,” someone suggested.
Nobody can say for sure what’s in that container without taking a closer look at it. But there’s a pretty good chance those little pieces are just ice, not plastic. Energy drinks can start forming ice if they get too cold, even if they don’t fully freeze.
There’s also something called supercooling that happens with drinks. Basically, a drink can get cold enough to freeze but stay liquid until you mess with it. When you crack open the can or pour it out, ice can suddenly show up and break into tiny floating bits. Travel conditions can affect products in unexpected ways, much like how airplane seating location impacts passenger experience.
